What is known from the rules
Articles 38–44 of the law on the circulation of medicines contain no rules on the amount and procedure of payments for taking part. The EAEU Good Clinical Practice Rules do not set amounts either, but they lay down principles for reviewing and disclosing payments:
- The amount and procedure of payments are reviewed by the independent ethics committee, which makes sure there is no undue inducement or coercion (clause 3.1.8).
- Information on payments, including the methods, the amount and the procedure, must be in the written informed consent form and in the other materials for participants (clauses 3.1.9; 4.8.10).
- In the version of the Rules in force since 10 March 2026, the amount of payments is set in proportion to participation in the study, but it must not depend solely on whether the participant completed the study in full (clause 3.1.8).
What this means for you
- Before signing you find out what is paid, how much and when. This information is in the informed consent and can be discussed with the physician.
- During the study the amount of payments is set in proportion to your participation. How exactly is stated in the informed consent.
- If you decide to withdraw, the amount of payment is determined by the terms of the study; it must not depend solely on whether you took participation to the end.
What this page does not contain
There are no specific amounts here: they differ between studies, are approved by the ethics committee and are stated in the informed consent. Call and ask when you book: the administrator will tell you which studies are running and on what terms.
Compensation and insurance are different things
- Payment for participation — its terms are described in the informed consent of the particular study.
- Insurance payout — protection in case of harm to life or health connected with the study. Participation in a study is impossible without a compulsory insurance contract (Article 44, Part 14).

Questions and answers
Where can I find out how much is paid and when?
In the informed consent of the particular study: it states the methods, the amount and the procedure of payments. Read this part before signing and ask the physician questions if anything is unclear.
Will I be paid if I leave the study early?
Under the GCP Rules the amount of payments is set in proportion to participation but must not depend solely on whether you completed the study (clause 3.1.8). How this works in your study is stated in the informed consent.
Is an insurance payout part of the payments for participation?
No. Life and health insurance of the participant (Article 44 of Law No. 61-FZ) is for the case of harm connected with the study; it is not payment for participation.
This material is general information and does not replace a physician’s advice. The decision to enrol a person in a study is made by the investigator physician.

Taking part in a clinical study is voluntary: you may withdraw at any stage. The study undergoes ethics review, participation is impossible without an insurance contract, and under the GCP Rules the rights, safety and well-being of participants outweigh the interests of science.
